Our New York City Highlights

Are you trying to decide what you should do in New York City? There's SO much to do, that planning can be overwhelming. So instead of trying to do it all, focus on what you love. My husband is an architect and walking the streets for hours on end, admiring the buildings and architecture, was enough for him (to the detriment of my poor feet). This was his first time in New York so we spent our days walking and taking it all in, rather than inside museums and shows. We'll save those for future trips. Here are twenty pictures of our New York City highlights!

People Watch

While my husband looks upwards at buildings, I prefer people watching. Maybe I'm a total creeper but I love this picture of this couple holding each other. New York is diverse and it is hectic, everyone has somewhere to be. If you're moving slower and lower your line of vision down from the skyscrapers you're sure to be entertained.

Grab a Slice

Artichoke Pizzais what dreams are made of. There are multiple locations but we ate at the one in Chelsea to refuel here after a walk down the High Line. I saw it from above and high tailed down it to exit the High Line down to Artichoke. I still daydream about the Vodka Sicilian slice. If you're still hungry, go next door to continue your food tour in the Chelsea Market, it's full of interesting options!

Eat Lunch in Chinatown

Walking through Chinatown I recognized this restaurant from Anthony Bourdain's show. Obviously, we went in for lunch, Bourdain never fails. Hop  Kee was very good, so take the stairs down to the basement restaurant and don't look back. We really felt like a local in this basement restaurant. Check out this

Staten Island Ferry

Take the Staten Island Ferry to see the Statue of Liberty and get a panoramic view of Manhattan FOR FREE. It leaves from Battery Park. The ferry leaves every half hour and the trip takes around 25 minutes each way. We took it to Staten Island, exited the ferry and immediately re-entered the station to board the ferry back to Manhattan.  Check the schedule here to plan your trip and avoid rush hour.

Cross the Brooklyn Bridge

If you're a morning person like I am, wake up for an early morning walk across the Brooklyn Bridge to avoid the crowds. We were there at 6:30! Maybe you think I'm crazy, but I love to watch a city wake up for the day. The air feels clean and fresh, some people are just ending their nights while others are waking up to begin theirs. It's a different point of view.
